Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick #70 — CMR's 1:12 Resin Tribute to a Group 5 Icon

The Porsche 935/78, better known by its nickname Moby Dick, is one of the most distinctive race cars Porsche ever built, and CMR has released a 1:12 scale resin replica that captures it in genuinely striking detail.
The original 935/78 was Porsche's response to the increasingly aerodynamic demands of Group 5 racing in the late 1970s. Its elongated, whale-like bodywork, the source of its nickname, was built around airflow rather than conventional styling, producing one of the most recognisable silhouettes in motorsport history. The car's long tail and wide stance made it instantly identifiable on track, and decades later it remains a favourite subject for scale model manufacturers precisely because of how visually striking it is.
This particular CMR release reproduces the #70 entry, sponsored by MOMO and driven by G. Moretti, which finished second in the DRM round at Norisring in 1981. It is a specific historical livery rather than a generic representation of the model, which is typically what collectors look for when choosing between similar releases of the same car.
The model is exclusive to ck-modelcars and modelissimo, and is built in CMR's resin construction rather than diecast metal. Resin is the standard production method for limited and specialist motorsport releases like this one, allowing for finer detail in the bodywork and livery than mass produced diecast typically achieves. At 1:12 scale, this is a substantial display piece, large enough to properly show off the proportions, livery and aerodynamic detailing that made the original car so distinctive.
For collectors who already have other Porsche 935 variants in their collection, or for anyone drawn to the wide-bodied, aerodynamics-first era of Group 5 racing, this release is a strong addition to look out for.
