IXO Le Mans Model Cars — 1:12, 1:18 & 1:43 Collector Guide

IXO's 24 Hours of Le Mans catalogue covers a wider range of scales and eras than it first appears. The three scales serve different kinds of collection. A 1:12 Porsche RSR is a large display piece that needs dedicated space. A 1:18 model gives race cars substantial presence while remaining practical for a multi-car collection. A 1:43 Le Mans model allows a collector to build a much broader historical grid without turning an entire room into a display cabinet.

Three Scales, Three Different Ways to Collect Le Mans

IXO's current Le Mans presence at CK-Modelcars is strongest across three formats: 1:12, 1:18 and 1:43. They should not be treated as simple size variations of the same hobby.

1:12 is the centrepiece scale. A modern GT car at roughly one-twelfth full size occupies serious shelf space, but body shape, cockpit detail, wheel design and complex racing liveries become much easier to appreciate.

1:18 is the middle ground. It is large enough for endurance cars to have visual impact, but compact enough to build a collection around one manufacturer, one decade or a sequence of Le Mans winners.

1:43 is the historical-coverage scale. The smaller footprint makes it realistic to collect cars from very different periods — Bentley, Ferrari, McLaren, Peugeot, Aston Martin and Porsche — within one coherent display.

1:12 — Where the Porsche 911 RSR Becomes a Centrepiece

IXO's current 1:12 Le Mans selection at CK-Modelcars is heavily centred on the Porsche 911 RSR. That concentration actually makes sense: the RSR's wide rear body, aero treatment and race-specific liveries benefit from the larger scale.

The 2018 #92 Pink Pig represents Porsche's LMGTE Pro-winning retro livery, while the #91 sister car took pole and finished second in class. Together they document Porsche's unusually memorable 2018 factory programme rather than simply presenting two colour variants.

The Gulf Racing #86 moves the same underlying RSR into privateer territory, while the Team Project 1 #56 adds a genuine 2019 LMGTE Am class winner.

1:18 — The Broadest IXO Le Mans Format

For collectors who want one scale to cover prototypes, GTE and modern GT3 machinery, 1:18 is currently the broadest IXO Le Mans format in the CK selection.

The Porsche 919 Hybrid sequence is particularly useful because IXO covers the cars that defined Porsche's mid-2010s LMP1 return. The #19 winner from 2015 marked Porsche's first overall Le Mans victory since 1998, while the #2 from 2017 completed the 919's run of three consecutive victories.

The catalogue then moves through the final GTE years with the Porsche 911 RSR #91 LMGTE Pro winner from 2022, the Iron Dames #85 from 2023 and the Gulf-liveried GR Racing #86.

For the Hypercar era, the Toyota GR010 Hybrid #7 and Proton Competition Porsche 963 #99 give the collection a very different silhouette from the GT cars around them.

The arrival of LMGT3 is represented by the Ford Mustang GT3 #88, third in class in 2024, and the Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R #91, the 2024 class winner.

1:43 — The Scale for Building a Le Mans Timeline

IXO's 1:43 catalogue becomes particularly interesting when the collection is organised by history rather than by one marque.

The Bentley 3 Litre Sport #8 reaches back to the second running of Le Mans in 1924. The Ferrari 166 MM #22 represents Ferrari's first overall victory in 1949. The McLaren F1 GTR #59 captures the extraordinary 1995 overall win for a car derived from the road-going F1.

The next major step is the modern prototype and GT era. The Aston Martin DBR9 #009 represents the 2008 GT1 class victory, while the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP #9 records Peugeot's overall 2009 win during the diesel prototype period.

More recent subjects such as the Porsche 911 RSR #91 from 2022, Iron Dames #85 from 2023 and Manthey 1st Phorm #92 from 2025 allow the same cabinet to continue into the current GT3 era.

Why IXO Works Particularly Well for Le Mans Collections

Le Mans collecting has a structural problem: the race covers more than a century of completely different vehicle types. A collection may need pre-war sports cars, 1960s GT machinery, Group C prototypes, GT1 cars, diesel LMP1s, hybrids, GTE Porsches and current Hypercars.

IXO's strength is breadth of subject rather than forcing every car into one premium price or construction philosophy. The same manufacturer can therefore provide a 1924 Bentley in 1:43, multiple modern Porsche RSRs in both 1:43 and 1:18, and large-format 1:12 RSRs for collectors who want one or two focal pieces.

That makes IXO particularly useful when the goal is to tell the history of the race rather than to build a display around a single premium manufacturer.

Same Car, Different Scale — When Duplication Makes Sense

Owning the same race car in more than one scale is not automatically redundant.

The 2022 Porsche 911 RSR #91, for example, exists in the current CK selection in both 1:18 and 1:43. The larger model works as an individual display object; the 1:43 version fits naturally into a chronological line-up of winners and class winners.

The same logic applies to modern Porsche and Iron Dames subjects. A collector can use 1:43 to create the historical framework and reserve 1:18 or 1:12 for the cars with the strongest personal or visual significance.

How to Choose the Right Scale

• Choose 1:12 if one or two Le Mans cars are intended to dominate the display and shelf space is available.
• Choose 1:18 if you want a substantial motorsport collection with strong visual detail but still need room for multiple cars.
• Choose 1:43 if historical breadth, multiple winners, teams and eras matter more than individual model size.
• Mix scales deliberately if 1:43 forms the historical backbone and larger models are reserved for key cars.

The scale decision is therefore not about which format is inherently superior. It is about how much of Le Mans history you want to represent and how much physical space each car can reasonably occupy.
